License Renewal

Virginia Licensure Renewal Manual (10-year licenses)

Renewal Procedures:

Beginning July 1, 2026 certified teachers are required to actively track and maintain their own professional development and recertification points required for license renewal. While the district will continue to offer professional development opportunities and provide documentation when applicable, keeping a personal record will help ensure accuracy and reduce last-minute concerns as renewal deadlines approach.

To support this process, each licensed staff member will be provided with a recertification binder. This binder should be used to organize and store all documentation related to professional development and recertification points, such as certificates, transcripts, and verification forms.

When it is time to renew a license, the completed binder will first be submitted to the building principal for review and approval. After principal approval, the binder will then be forwarded to Jason Campbell at the Board Office for final processing and record keeping prior to submission to VDOE.

Staff members will be required to:

  • Periodically review their license renewal requirements and timelines.
  • Maintain current and accurate documentation in the provided binder.
  • Verify that professional learning activities align with state requirements.
  • Attach this listing to a completed three-page “Application for License Renewal” .

  • Submit to your School Principal who will sign and forward to the School Board for final approval and new license processing.

Pursuant to the Code of Virginia, there are several statutory requirements individuals must complete for an initial license to be issued or for license renewal.

Those requirements, along with their links, can be found on the VDOE Statutory Requirements Document.
